What is Latitude

Latitude is an angle (defined below) which ranges from 0° at the Equator to 90° (North or South) at the poles. Lines of constant latitude, or parallels, run east–west as circles parallel to the equator.Latitude is also used as a word to describe your scope for freedom of action or thought.

The Sextant

The primary use of a sextant is to measure the angle between an astronomical object and the horizon for the purpose of navigation – this measures the position of your latitude on the globe.
